Tags: Kris Parker for moral support for Kurt, It wasn't too long after Kurt had set up his own shop in the Marketplace that he noticed Peanut and Kiwi getting much closer together. Perhaps it was having more room on a ranch, having their own place without too many others running amok. Perhaps it was because Kurt had mentioned how Professor Cypress was going to be looking for eggs and young Pokemon to train up for starting trainers. No matter the reason, Kurt wasn't sure if he should have been surprised or not the morning that he woke up to Apple staring at him from the foot of his bed. "Kiwi is going to lay eggs," his Xatu said simply before spreading her wings to fly out the window. "Eggs will arrive at precisely seven thirty-eight a.m. on Thursday."Kurt shook his head to get rid of the odd, almost ticklish, feeling that lingered for a few moments whenever Apple spoke telepathically to him. He stared at his Xatu's retreating form, dumbfounded at the news. "Well. That's good to know," he said to himself before glancing at his clock. It was a little earlier than he usually got up, but he figured since he was awake, he would start his day. Truth be told, he should have realized that Kiwi was going to try having eggs sometime soon. He found his missing sweater in her nesting area of the barn and she didn't seem too inclined to leave the spot often. Peanut was usually close by as well, and Kurt let them be, Apple's words echoing in his mind whenever he saw either of them. Because, really, what other Pokemon around would Kiwi trust enough to have eggs with other than Peanut? Chili wasn't even compatible biologically with Kiwi, so the Magmar was out of the running immediately. Jello got along well with the Furret too, but the Donphan was Kiwi's best friend. Despite the warning and seeing the signs, Kurt still found himself unprepared when Apple woke him up on Thursday morning at seven thirty with an ominous, "They're coming.""What?" Kurt's sleep-addled brain was befuddled. "Who's coming?""The eggs, Master." Apple's voice was patronizingly patient. "Kiwi is laying eggs.""Oh--!" Kurt hurled himself out of bed, put on pants, and grabbed his cell phone before booking it to the barn. He nearly tripped over Coconut, who had decided to sleep in Kurt's house the previous night, the Aipom's short fur bristling in alarm. "I'm sorry, Coconut, everything's cool, don't worry!""Aip…?"Kurt would fill Coconut in later, or hope that Apple would. Right now, he was close to panicking, feeling as if he had never had a Pokemon lay eggs before when he totally should know what to do because he did it a few times on Gaia Ranch back in Sinnoh. In a slight panic, Kurt dialed Kristen's number as he raced to the barn, greeting her with an eloquent, "Help."

Tags: Oh, goodness, Kurt Emerson! xDWhat time was it?
Kristen yawned as she sat up, trying to discern how early it was. It was a rather awful habit she was getting into, sleeping in a little later than she used to. Considering her new ranch was nearly as lively as the old one back in Sinnoh, coupled with the fact that it was rather exhausting moving a ranch to an island, Kristen fudged her morning routine a bit to get just an extra hour or two of sleep. She'd start to get up earlier again when she got busier and had more Pokemon -- especially young ones -- to attend to, but for now she was enjoying the extra blissful sleep.
Except when her cell phone started blaring.
"'Ello?" She barely had looked at the caller ID.
She was decidedly much more awake when she heard Kurt bluntly say, "Help."
"What's wrong?" Kristen swung her feet out of bed. "Are you okay? Are your Pokemon okay? Should I have Mona teleport us over there?"

Tag: Kris ParkerKristen's voice on the other end of the line was adorably sleepy and Kurt almost felt bad about surely waking her up. Then he winced as he heard the panic go into his friend's voice. "No, no, wait, we're fine," Kurt said. He took a deep breath, reaching the barn and slowing his steps as he went to Kiwi's nest. "Kiwi is having eggs."Kurt spotted Kiwi, with Peanut laying right next to her, his trunk wrapped with her tail. Kiwi's face was buried in Kurt's sweater and she was breathing heavily. Mocha was standing nearby, her own face hidden amid her fake shrubbery. "I think everything is okay," Kurt said. "They're coming now, I just… I know what I'm supposed to do, I just wanted to hear another voice…"

Tags: Kurt EmersonAt Kurt's words that Kiwi was laying eggs, Kristen heaved a sigh of relief and flopped back onto her pillow. "Oh… Kurt, that's wonderful," Kristen said, albeit she still sounded a bit confused. "Wait, everything is okay with them, right?"
Kurt confirmed that everything seemed fine, and Kristen smiled lightly. "I'm right here, Kurt," she said, her tone strong and gentle at the same time. "I'll stay on the line as long as you need me to, but you totally got this."
Checking the time, Kristen figured she would get up anyway. She kept the phone on speaker mode and got dressed before taking her cell with her down to the kitchen to start a cup of tea.

Tags: Kris ParkerKurt sighed, relieved as he heard Kristen confirm that she would remain on the line with him. "Thank you, Kris… Mocha, can you do something for me?"The Sudowoodo lifted her face from her fake shrubbery, her eyes darting from Kiwi to Kurt, and she gave a nod Kurt almost didn't notice. "Get a towel that's hanging on the clothesline," Kurt said, "and ask Jello to soak and wring it before bringing it back here for Kiwi. Chili." Kurt turned to his Magmar as Mocha darted out of the barn. "Go into the house and warm up a plastic cup of milk, please? Not too hot, don't burn the plastic…!" he called as Chili ambled out of the barn as well.

Tags: Kurt EmersonKristen listened as Kurt doled out instructions to his other Pokemon, smiling to herself as she tried to picture the scene in her mind.
"G'morning, Trek," she whispered as her Grovyle came ambling into the kitchen. He tilted his head, no doubt curious as to who Kristen was talking to at the early morning hour. "It's Kurt."
Into the phone's speaker, Kristen tried to sound calm and patient as she asked, "How's Kiwi doing?"

Tags: Kris ParkerKristen's voice on the other line kept Kurt grounded, even as he went through the motions that he remembered from the old Gaia Ranch. Her tone was even, patient, and he could imagine a soft smile on her face as she spoke. "How you doing, girl?" Kurt asked his Furret quietly. Kiwi mewled in between pants and Peanut rumbled uneasily, no doubt unsure as to what to do himself. Kurt gave Kiwi's ears a quick scratch and she briefly smiled at the contact before Kurt said into the phone, "She seems to be doing fine. Breathing deeply, belly heaving, ah, good job, Mocha. Thanks, Jello."The Quagsire had followed Mocha back into the barn, the dual water and ground type carrying the soaked towel so Mocha didn't have to touch it. She would have been fine, of course, but her rock typing still made her averse to most damp things. Jello nodded to Kurt's thanks and took a step back, allowing Kiwi some privacy in laying her eggs. Chili returned with the milk not too long after, and Kurt saw the first egg coming. "Kris…." Kurt took a deep breath as he helped wipe down Kiwi, the Furret herself cleaning off the eggs. "Kris, they're here. They look perfect. There are six in total."

Tags: Kurt Emerson"Six? Whoa, good for them!"
Kristen got her breakfast slowly, moving around and using one hand to get everything ready. Trek watched, seemingly amused and still not quite awake, before giving her the occasional helping hand when he could. Having only three appendages gave him a disadvantage sometimes.
"Of course they look perfect," she said. "What'd you expect? They came from two highly well-trained and happy Pokemon. Do you have any idea what you're going to do with the eggs, or is that question too soon?"

Tags: Kris ParkerKurt chuckled at Kristen's astonishment at the number of eggs. "Four Sentret eggs and two Phanpy eggs. They all look fantastic, nice and shiny, no cracks or discoloration."In response to her praise, Kurt felt his face heat up and he knew it wasn't just because he was handling the hot milk. He poured the milk into a bowl, letting it cool for a few seconds before putting it within reach of Kiwi. "Thank you," he settled for saying, keeping his words simple, "for listening and waiting patiently just in case I lost my mind or panicked."When Kristen asked if he knew what he was going to do with the eggs, he eloquently said, "Uhh…" Kurt glanced up and saw Apple. "Not at the moment, but I can probably ask Apple about what I do, ha. She's the one who told me the eggs were coming. A couple will probably go to Cypress. I'm sure she'd be interested." He glanced at Kiwi, who looked happy but exhausted. The Furret didn't seem to mind the idea of a couple of her eggs becoming starter Pokemon for the region's professor.

Tags: Kurt Emerson Pokemon Happiness: Trek - Maxed"I didn't do anything," Kristen said when Kurt thanked her. "I'm glad everyone seems to be alright, yourself included. And I don't think I can ever picture you panicking," she added, a hint of laughter underlying her words.
When Kurt mentioned that Apple told him that Kiwi was expecting eggs, Kristen said, "Well, that's handy. I remember Mona doing that when we had our first batch of eggs back on Gaia Ranch. Remember them?"
Trek seemed to be dozing at the kitchen table, something that Kristen never really caught her Grovyle ever doing before. Generally he was completely alert. Kristen smiled to herself, hoping that it meant Trek was settling in and getting comfortable with their new home.

Tags: Kris ParkerKurt said nothing in response to Kristen mentioning how she couldn't picture Kurt panicking, unsure as to what to say. There were plenty of times he felt like panicking, such as when the old Gaia Ranch had been attacked by poachers or the one time when Kristen got so sick that she could barely get out of bed. Handling baby Pokemon and eggs still brought that uneasy feeling every once in a while, but he supposed he'll deal with it. At the very least, the anxiety wasn't as strong the first time he had handled a hatchling. The topic turned to Gaia Ranch's first batch of eggs in Sinnoh and Kurt laughed. "How could I forget? I had the Munchlax under my care, haha! Last I heard, his new trainer had trained him up into a formidable Snorlax, unbeatable on the battlefield when he was awake."

Tags: Kurt Emerson"Oh, I'm glad to hear you're still in contact with his trainer," Kristen said. "I do my best to keep up with correspondence like that, but I've regrettably let some slip through the cracks…"
It was a weakness that Kristen was continually working towards fixing. She always used the excuse that she was too busy to keep up with correspondence or she'd always tell herself that she's contact trainers to check up on rehabilitated Pokemon a little later.
Glancing at Trek trying to wake himself up, Kristen figured that Kurt didn't need her to hang around the phone any longer. While she wouldn't mind staying on the line all day with her friend, she did have a ranch to care for.
"I'll let you go then, now, shall I?" Kristen said. "I'm sure you need to take care of the eggs. Let me know when you figure out what to do with them."

Tags: Kris Parker, seems like a decent ending. Thanks for doing this with me!"You've raised and rehomed so many," Kurt said, "it was bound to happen. Don't beat yourself over it. I know every Pokemon that you ever fostered was put into a great home. You wouldn't release them to anything less.
"I will," Kurt said in response to Kristen mentioning to let her know what he intends to do with the eggs. He was certain one or two of the eggs would go to Professor Cypress. He glanced at Kiwi, who looked happy but exhausted. The Furret wouldn't mind the idea of a couple of her eggs becoming starter Pokemon for the region's professor. "Have a good day, Kris. Thanks again," he said before the pair hung up. Looking back at Kiwi and Peanut, Kurt added, "Well, I suppose you two can have breakfast in bed today.""Furrr…" Kiwi purred.
