Soft Ripples [Mod]

Mirror Lake was one of Kurt's favorite spots on the island. The water was usually still if it didn't have soft ripples from the occasional Pokemon breaking the surface and -- if one got up early enough -- the sunrise was absolutely gorgeous. Kurt definitely had the thought to invite Kris on a breakfast picnic around the area, but both were usually too busy to get up that early for a hike to the lake.

That, and Kris was a bit hydrophobic, although Kurt was sure she'd appreciate the scenery.

Shaking the thoughts from his head, Kurt scratched under Coconut's chin, the Aipom having been perched on his shoulders this entire time. "Ready to see what we can find?" Kurt asked, letting the Pokemon down before releasing Jello and Brie.

Brie appeared with a curious glance around the area, the young Psyduck opting to stick close to her new trainer. Kurt had a mild hope that there would be some wild Pokemon willing to battle to give Brie a boost in level. Jello was there mainly as a backup, the Quagsire playing the role of body guard for the group. As chill as Jello was, Kurt could always count on him.

"The main goal is to find berries and apricorns for some good pokeballs," Kurt said, gesturing to the area and letting his Pokemon wander as they wished.

The lake was barely disturbed, although a small wind here or there did cause the surface to give off a slight ripple. All in all, it was a mild day weather-wise, with plenty of foliage and shrubbery soaking up the sun and surviving against the cooler weather that the island had been seeing recently.

As such, there was a hardy-looking blue apricorn tree near the lake's edge with two apricorns ready to be picked. However, near this apricorn bush was a small Tympole eying Kurt and company with curiosity.

If the apricorn tree didn't look inviting enough, there was a shrub a bit further away from the lake that seemed to grow Persim berries. A Chewtle and Marill were snacking on a few of the ripened berries, pointedly ignoring each other and the human nearby.

"Perfect," Kurt murmured when he spotted the blue apricorn tree. He plucked the two ripe apricorns, intending to at least plant one in his garden to always have a steady supply. While doing so, he spotted the Tympole.

"Hey, you willing to battle?" he asked it before calling Brie over. "C'mon, let's see what you got."

The Psyduck nodded, straightened up, and gingerly took her hand off her head. Apparently she was fully willing to ignore whatever minor headache she had in order to focus on a battle.

The Tympole seemed slightly startled at being addressed but it didn't seem to mind the question. Instead, it looked at Brie and got into a defensive position.

Before anything else could be said, the Tympole used Supersonic on Brie to confuse the Psyduck.

Well, that was short.

The Supersonic hit Brie, and the poor Psyduck got confused. Brie teetered in place for a moment, before nearly tripping over her feet. The Tympole appeared to laugh before using Echoed Voice. However, before the Echoed Voice could hit Brie, Kurt gestured for Coconut to take over.

The Aipom leaped in front of Brie and took the hit. It didn't do much at all, and Coconut retaliated with a Fury Swipes. Swiping at the Tympole with his paws, Coconut felled it in a few hits and the Tympole swam away. Kurt let it go, opting to check on Brie instead.

"You good?" he asked his Psyduck. She shook herself, apparently trying to dislodge the Confusion.

While Coconut and Brie were tangling with the Tympole, Jello had wandered off and found another apricorn tree. The Quagsire returned to his trainer with three gray apricorns.

However, it seemed like another Pokemon had tried to stake a claim on that apricorn tree. After a few seconds, a Cramorant charged at Jello's back with a Peck attack.

Jello barely blinked when the Cramorant came at him. Instead of retaliating on his own, Jello glanced at Kurt with a shrug, ignoring the now-indignant Cramorant.

The Cramorant fluffed up her feathers and looked as if she was going to attack again, but instead got a face full of Brie's Water Gun. It didn't do too much at all, other than momentarily baffling the Cramorant before it tried to dive towards Brie with a Peck. Jello instead blocked the Cramorant to get hit with the second Peck and used Slam to scare off the Cramorant once and for all.

"Thanks for the apricorns," Kurt said, watching as the Cramorant dashed away and he tried not to feel too bad. The apricorns would regrow, after all.

While the Cramorant was being taken care of, Coconut seemed to have found three Chesto berries and the Aipom returned them to his trainer.

There seemed to be a few Pokemon wandering about. A Surskit was gliding along the surface of the lake a little ways off the shore, and a small Dewpider was digging in the banks of the lake, most likely looking for food. Somewhere to the left of Kurt and his Pokemon was a soft humming, light music that he could probably recognize as being from a Kricketot from his time in the Sinnoh region.

"Thanks, Coconut," Kurt said, figuring that the Chesto berries would work well for other medicines. He thankfully hadn't really encountered too many Pokemon that could use sleep-inducing moves on his own team, but the Chesto berries could be used to create Full Heals or something.

There were a couple of other Pokemon that Kurt was interested in, and he glanced back and forth between the Surskit gliding on the water and the Dewpider along the banks of the lake. Surskit was relatively familiar, but he had only really seen Dewpider in books and on the Internet. After a moment, Kurt decided to set his sights on the Surskit and said to Jello, "Try to herd that Surskit closer, will you?"

The Quagsire did as was told, flopping into the lake water and paddling out towards the Bug- and Water-type.

The Surskit saw the Quagsire coming and immediately tried to defend himself with a Bubble attack. Considering his opponent, it probably won't do too much but the Surskit seemed to hope it would distract the Quagsire enough to allow him to back away.

The Bubble attack did next to nothing to Jello, but the Quagsire was conscious of Kurt telling him to try to steer the Surskit closer to the shore. Per Kurt's suggestion, Jello used Yawn and barely felt the subsequent Quick Attack the Surskit tried to pull off before starting to fall asleep.

Jello made some waves in the lake, using the water's momentum to push the Surskit closer to Kurt and his teammates. Once the Surskit was within range, Kurt said, "Thanks, Jello. Brie, try using a couple of Confusion attacks to whittle down its health."

Brie did as she was told, using her new move and concentrating hard enough to warrant the need to hold her head. The Surskit struggled in its sleep as the psychic attack hit it, but it remained asleep for a few more minutes. Kurt then had Jello intercept once more, just in case the Surskit woke up -- Jello could obviously take its attacks, but Kurt wasn't sure about Brie -- and threw a Level Ball at the wild Pokemon.

The Pokeball bounced off of the sleeping Surskit's head, but the Pokemon barely stirred. The Level Ball clicked with the capture, the Surskit still snoozing within the capsule.

Jello fetched the pokeball from the lake and returned it to Kurt. "Thanks, buddy," Kurt said, drying the Pokeball off on his shirt. "Gonna have to figure out what to call this guy..."

Coconut stared at the Pokeball, perhaps unsure as to what to think to yet another new teammate. Kurt was adding them fairly frequently lately, which wasn't a bad thing, of course. Still, Coconut could be shy when it came to new faces.

It was still early in the afternoon, so Kurt pocketed the Surskit's Pokeball and said to everyone else, "C'mon, let's see what else we find."

The day seemed sleepy itself, but there were still a few Pokemon here and there, none of them particularly disturbed by Kurt and his team. In fact, one Pokemon was bold enough to walk up to them. A female Indeedee seemed openly curious about them, keeping a bit of a distance between herself and Kurt's team, but nonetheless seemingly interested.

A few other Pokemon around -- such as a Buizel floating on its back on the lake's surface and a Slakoth lounging on one of the nearby tree limbs -- weren't paying much attention to Kurt and company. The Slakoth's tree did have some ripe Sitrus berries, should Kurt feel inclined to pick them.

Kurt spied the Sitrus berries and instructed Coconut to go and pick a few, being careful of the Slakoth. "Don't disturb it," Kurt said. "Just see if you can take a few berries."

He watched his Aipom do as he asked, and glanced to see Jello coaxing Brie into the lake for a small swim. Kurt figured they'd be fine, trusting Jello at the very least to be able to defend himself and Brie against any wild Pokemon. Kurt was honestly starting to enjoy the scenery and was contemplating taking a nap when he noticed the Indeedee staring at him and his team.

"Hey there," Kurt said casually. "How are you doing?"

He honestly wasn't sure what the Indeedee wanted, and he didn't quite know much about the species itself. Still, it didn't seem aggressive nor hurt.
