Nitrine arrived at Gaia Island's main office and dismounted DJ outside. "This won't take long," he assured his Doduo, removing a fresh bag of potato chips from his backpack. Both of DJ's heads happily crunched a handful of chips that Nitrine proffered.
He went on, "Once I'm done here, we can move the fence posts and you'll have more space to run around in. So ideally, you'll actually want to stay on the ranch for once." He knew DJ wanted more than just space, however. He really needed to take all his Pokemon out training.
Nitrine returned DJ to his Poké Ball and entered the office building. "Ding-dong! Is anyone here?" he called. Hopefully he hadn't caught someone on a lunch break.
Kris Parker or Kurt Emerson; totally don't mind if this thread goes on for a few posts for interaction/relationship stuff. Also, please see the Stray Happiness Posts section of my PC for why I'm counting happiness this way. Happiness: DJ, Oxana, Kellen - 0 (2/5); Cole - 0 (4/5)

A Scrafty was what greeted Nitrine, the orange and yellow Pokemon glancing up from lounging on one of the chairs behind the main desk. He tilted his head to the side, seemingly scrutinizing the rancher before calling out to the back room.
"I'm coming, Baron!" Kristen emerged into the main area and gave Nitrine a smile upon spotting him. She moved cautiously, mindful of the egg in the warm sling-like backpack she was wearing. It wouldn't do to smack the egg into the wall or a counter. "How are you, Nitrine? Everything well?"
Baron the Scrafty appeared to return to his lounging, pulling up the hoodie-like loose yellow skin over his head, but keeping his eyes open to watch the humans' exchange.

“Hello,” Nitrine said when he spotted Baron at the desk. He wasn't sure what kind of Pokemon he'd been greeted by, but certainly it had to belong to either Kris or Kurt. When Kris came out from the back room, he knew his guess had been correct.
He said, “I'm keeping well; busy making sure my Pokemon are behaving, that the barn is always clean, that the flower fields are trimmed. Typical ranch stuff, I guess!” Nitrine beamed back at Kris. “You know, you and I never really talk much. Tell me about you; what’s it like on you ranch?” He glanced down at Baron, who had made himself comfortable in the chair again, and he asked Kris, “And what kind of Pokemon is this guy? I’ve never seen him before.”

Tags: @aeranautics Pokemon Happiness: Baron - 0 (2/5) Starly Egg: 7/10, edited my last post to add the egg into my reply because I'm a horrible rancher and keep forgetting about it.Kristen's smile grew upon hearing how well Nitrine seemed to be doing with his ranch. "That all sounds wonderful," she said. "I'm glad you've settled in well. I'm sure your Pokemon are enjoying the ranch, too." At the very least, Kristen was sure that Nitrine would have come to her or Kurt if there had been a problem.
"It happens." Kristen gave the other a small shrug and a crooked smile when Nitrine mentioned how the pair didn't talk much. "Ranches take up quite a bit of time. Mine's pretty busy with all the Pokemon running amok, a few eggs here and there." She shrugged off the egg backpack and placed it gently on the counter, petting the black and white shell. "Coming here to the office for my shifts is my break, haha!
"This is Baron, my Scrafty," the young woman said, glancing at said Pokemon. Baron gave Nitrine a two-fingered salute from under his hood as a greeting. "He's a dual Dark- and Fighting-type that I had caught in Unova when he was a Scraggy, the pre-evolved form. He just felt like joining me at the office today. He mainly helps out by napping and staying out of the way."
Baron raised his head, giving his trainer a deadpan expression, but she merely smiled back, her tone having been affectionate.
"Would you like anything?" Kristen asked, turning her attention back to Nitrine. "Water, tea, coffee...? Kurt may have left some hot chocolate from his last shift...
"Or did you also come here for business?" She grinned.

Nitrine gave an enthusiastic nod. “Yep. It's definitely more work than I thought it would be, but now I'm in the swing of things; it's gotten easier over time. I've been so busy that I haven't had time to take my Pokémon out and train them, though, so I'll likely end up having a day out for some of them.”
Gasping, Nitrine stepped forward and leaned towards the counter when Kris set the egg atop it. “Neato! What kind of egg is that?” He wasn’t sure what kind of Pokemon she typically raised -- did she even have a single type specialty? -- so it was tough trying to think of what species could be developing in the egg. “If coming here is like a break for you, it sounds like your work is never done, haha! I guess you really can’t take time off if you have a lot of Pokemon on your ranch, huh? I actually have never been to your ranch, I don’t think; what is it like?”
He listened with interest to Kristen when she introduced Baron and told Nitrine about him. Nitrine, of course, had always thought of Dark-types as dangerous, but this one seemed rather lazy. He remarked, “Well, that’s nice of him. Dark and Fighting sounds like a very tough combination for battles, but Baron sounds pretty laid-back.” He addressed Baron directly when he said, “But, I bet you’re no slouch when it comes to battles, huh?
“Water would be great,” Nitrine said upon being offered. Hot cocoa was his weakness, but he didn’t want to steal from Kurt. He also mentioned, “Actually, yeah, I did; I already have six Pokemon on my ranch and wanted to add another acre so I can be ready when my Pokemon have their own eggs. Hopefully soon.”
Kris Parker; no worries. i was actually wondering about the egg today because way back when you mentioned you really needed to hatch it, lol. happens to the best of us. Happiness: DJ, Oxana, Kellen - 0 (4/5); Cole - 1 (1/5)

Tags: @aeranautics, $500 will be taken from your account. Pokemon Happiness: Baron - 0 (3/5) Starly Egg: 8/10"Oh, definitely," Kristen agreed, regarding how ranch work got a little easier once one got used to it. "Sure, you're sore from all the physical work in the beginning, but you'll never need to go jogging or lift weights to stay in shape again.
"Finding the time to train can be a bit difficult," she said. "Not to add more work onto your shoulders, but have you thought about designating a place on your grounds for sparring? I have a small battlefield, and the majority of my Pokemon are old enough to be trusted with it. Tends to help them keep in shape when they're not helping me keep the rest of the grounds in tact."
She patted the egg when Nitrine's attention turned to it. "It's a Starly egg," Kristen said. "A young woman that used to be on the old Gaia Ranch before this place became an island come to visit recently. Do you talk to Bryar of Wildrose Orchards often? It was his sister, actually, Avalyn. She may still be wandering the island. We did a couple of clutches with our Pokemon, and this is the guy that I'm keeping for my team. Got a Skarmory, a Fletchling, and a couple of Woobat eggs in the shop, if you're interested."
She took a moment to mull over Nitrine's question about her ranch. "It's... big. Most of it is pretty leveled, but being in the middle of the island, you can kind of feel every landscape around it. The air is dryer on the western side, part of the river from the lake snakes through the eastern side, and there's a cave with a chill in the air near my nothern perimeter. I haven't fully explored it yet, but I'm guessing that it eventually comes out somewhere in the White Tops.
"You're more than welcome to come and visit anytime," she said. With a grin, she added, "Just don't look or act threatening, and you should be good!"
Kristen grabbed a bottle of water for Nitrine, glancing over at Baron when he did so. Baron gave Nitrine a nod and a crooked smile upon being spoken to, but seemed more inclined to close his eyes and lean back in his chair than offer anything more to the conversation. "Oh, Baron was one of my top battlers when I went through Unova. If you need back-up in a fight, pick him.
"Perfect!" Kristen woke up the computer that was chilling at the edge of the counter. "Alrightie, so an extra acre is $500. Any clutches in the works, do you know? Or are you planning any, or just seeing what your Pokemon do?"

Nitrine nodded with a chuckle. "That's absolutely true. I feel a lot stronger than I was when I first moved here, that's for sure." He emphasized with a playful flex. Regarding a battlefield, he said, "Hm, that's a good idea, why didn't I think of that? That'll probably be the next thing on my to-do list, then, once I figure out how to set one up.
"Starly, of course!" he exclaimed, taking a closer look at the black-and-white egg. "A lot of the new trainers in my town had Starly because so many of them nested near town. I hear they get really strong when they evolve. Yes, I talked with Bryar once and he did mention he had a few siblings, and that they all specialized in different types. Maybe I'll run into Avalyn before she leaves the island." Upon Kristen mentioning the eggs in her shop, Nitrine said, "I might have a look-see in the near future!"
When she talked about her ranch, Nitrine remarked, "That's pretty rad. Do you ever think it's really weird having such a huge ranch that, like, encompasses all the different habitats? And don't you worry; if I ever stop by your ranch, I'll be sure to let your Pokemon know I'm a friend.
"I'll definitely keep that in mind," he said, in response to Baron's reliable battling capabilities. He accepted the water bottle with grace before handing over the needed funds for the new acre of his ranch. Now, to run home and replace his boundary fences. Kris asked about any future clutches he may have had, and he answered with a shrug. "I haven't really planned anything out just yet. Oxana just recently evolved into a Granbull, so I figured she would be the most ready to have a clutch of her own, but I was also interested in maybe getting an Eevee egg from someone because I was really interested in having a Sylveon one day, you know? But the only Eevee-parents I can think of right now are Bryar's Leafeon and his new baby Eevee, which are both female, and I don't think my Zorua is ready for a clutch just yet." He took a long drink of water and finished, "So I guess I'm still trying to work things out."
Kris Parker woot woot. will absolutely make one more open-ended post so you can get the 10/10 on your egg. Happiness: DJ, Oxana, Kellen - (5/5) +1; Cole - 1 (2/5)

He honestly should have just bought a couple of acres with the new ranch. While he still had room right now, with the way Bookie and Presto were flirting with each other, he figured he may as well go and get another acre to get it over with.
August wasn't the only visiting the main office, as was apparent when there was another young man there speaking with Kristen. August gave the pair a nod and waited near the window by the front door, intending to give Kristen and the other guy privacy to finish up their business. His gray gaze roamed around the office, much like his Mismagius, who seemed delighted at all the fancy new things around her.
"Don't touch anything, Harl." August's quiet, but firm, instructions were enough to make the Ghost-type pout. Nevertheless, she floated along, giving Kristen and the other guy a wave with one of her tendrils, just looking around at everything with mild curiosity. Eventually, she seemed to have caught sight of Baron and gave the other Pokemon a wide grin.
August wasn't sure if the grin was supposed to be friendly or mischievous (perhaps a bit of both), but it gave him enough cause to warningly say, "Harlequin..." His Pokemon turned only to stick her tongue out at him before floating over the counter to give Baron a better greeting.
August sighed and pushed off from the wall he had been leaning on. "Sorry," he murmured to the other guy and Kristen as August reached the counter himself. "Harl, get back on this side. You know you don't belong over there."
Harlequin dramatically rolled her eyes but floated back to the right side of the counter (just barely, but August wasn't going to argue). Tags: Kris Parker, @aeranautics Happiness Gained: Harlequin - 0 (1/5)

Tags: @aeranautics, @ninja Pokemon Happiness: Baron - 0 (4/5) Starly Egg: 9/10"If you need any help with a battlefield," Kristen said, "there's plenty of us around. Kurt's not too bad with landscaping, and Raphael isn't, if I remember correctly. Think he has to be pretty handy considering the types he raises. Did you meet either of them, yet? Kurt helps out around the office here, but his ranch is eastward. Raphael's all the way in the west. Kurt's a pretty cheerful, amicable guy, while Raph is more of the strong, silent type, but he's good, too.
"You probably will," she said when the talk turned to Avalyn. "She's always exploring and on the move, it seems. She may pop in on you, unless you have any keep out signs posted on your land."
She smiled. "It's not really weird, no... I was so used to traveling to different places and regions that seeing such diverse landscapes became the norm for me." She tilted her head as Nitrine spoke of Eevee eggs, and she mentioned with a grin, "Raphael and I each have a Jolteon, both male. Just so you know. I think Raphael's Jolteon is the offspring of Bryar's Leafeon, actually. I have the clutch information here somewhere, if you're really interested."
As they talked, the business transaction happened, and Kristen soon had the printer whirring in the corner next to Baron. Barely opening his eyes, the Scrafty reached out to grab the printed paper and handed it over to Kristen. She thanked him, gently moved the Starly egg out of the way on the counter, and began highlighting a new area to show her fellow rancher. "Alrightie, Nitrine, these are your ranch's new boundaries..."
The door to the main office opened again, and Kristen looked up to see one of the newest ranchers around the island, complete with a Mismagius in tow. While she didn't really mind the Mismagius roaming around, she wouldn't contradict the Pokemon's trainer. Baron seemed more confused than anything, but he greeted the Ghost-type nonetheless with a tip of his "hood."
As Harlequin floated back toward August's side of the counter, Kristen gave August a nod and a smile. "Hey, August. I'll be right with you as soon as Nitrine and I are all set. Do you two know each other? Nitrine, this is August, the newest rancher. He hangs around the southwest. August, Nitrine here runs a ranch in the southeast."

Nitrine grinned at Kris, saying, "You think they'd help me set up a battlefield? That's really cool of you! I met Kurt pretty recently; I learned that one of the Pokemon I recently adopted was actually bred by him, this Sentret I called Ginger. He happened to be walking by with the mama Furret, and she and Ginger interacted, and it was really cool to watch. And funny you should say that about Raphael. I haven't met him yet, but Bryar said the same thing about him when he and I talked once. I guess I should maybe pay a visit to Raphael, too, finally meet him."
When it was mentioned Avalyn was always on the move, he said, "Luckily for her, I don't have any signs up like that. I guess I can look forward to meeting her around." On the topic of the different landscapes, Nitrine nodded in understanding. "I see. I just grew up in the city, mostly, and wasn't encouraged to go out and do my own adventuring, so having such a diverse landscape probably would seem a lot weirder to me. But it would make it easier to own more types of Pokemon. On the other hand, even just the ones I have right now are kind of a handful, heheh."
Hearing that both Raphael and Kristen herself had male Jolteon for Oxana to breed with definitely piqued Nitrine's interest. "Wow, that's pretty... convenient. Small world, too; I wonder if Bryar's ever taken his Leafeon to Raphael's so they could have a play-date. ...do ranchers with clutches normally do that, if they know Pokemon they've bred are around?" One more reason to have to go meet this Raphael fellow... of course, the Marketplace was also just in town. He could just see if Raphael had his Jolteon up for stud and possibly compare prices with Kris's prices. Certainly, a rare species of stud like Jolteon couldn't be cheap in any case.
Nitrine leaned over the counter when Kris marked up his new boundaries, and he held up a thumbs-up for her help. Just before he got a chance to say thank-you properly, he lifted his head to see a man walk in with rustled hair, followed by a Mismagius. Nitrine stiffened involuntarily. Mismagius was the stuff of campfire ghost stories when he was a kid: the species was known to feed on fear, casting spells of torment on their foes or even unsuspecting passerby humans just because they can.
Perhaps it wasn't so bad if its trainer could control it... but then it approached the counter and Nitrine took a few hasty steps aside when it approached—no way he was going to let that thing get too close. The Mismagius, whose nickname was apparently Harlequin, seemed more interested in Baron than trying to cast some kind of headache-inducing spell on anyone, but who could tell with Ghost-types? Kristen addressed both him and the other guy, August, who called Harlequin back to his side. So this was the guy Kurt mentioned...
"No, we haven't met yet," Nitrine answered, straightening up and turning to August, "until today, that is. Pleased to meet you." He put on his friendliest voice despite how startled he'd been by Harlequin, though he didn't step forward for a handshake, preferring to give a small wave instead. He'd probably made his aversion to Ghost-types way obvious in not doing so, but what did he have to prove to that guy? "Kristen and I are pretty much done with business here," he said, grabbing the printed sheet from the counter and folding it, "so I can just take this and get out of your hair." To Kris, he said, "Thanks a lot for the acreage. It was really great talking to you; we should hang out again sometime!"
That said, he gave her and August each one final wave as he walked across the office and stepped onto the sidewalk. It was only then that he could truly relax, taking DJ's Pokeball and releasing the Doduo. "That was unexpected," he muttered, crumpling the folded paper into one pocket. "I thought I'd never have to see that guy." He cast a brief glance at the window before having DJ crouch a little for easy mounting. "He looks kind of... creepy. Like Pokemon, like trainer, I guess."
DJ looked into the window, too, and simply grunted his opinion before receiving the word to go.

Kristen didn't seem to mind Harlequin wandering around, nor did the Scrafty (thankfully), but August nonetheless ensured that his Pokemon stayed by his side. Harlequin, on her part, waved cheekily to the other humans as she somersaulted in the air back to August.
August nodded to Nitrine, saying, "A pleasure," in regards to meeting him. Nitrine, however, seemed to dash off quickly enough after the two were introduced to each other. August raised an eyebrow at Nitrine's retreating back and, mildly, asked Kristen, "Something I said?"
He didn't seem too bothered, for he started talking business with the young woman. "Figured I better buy another acre for Crescent Grove, if you don't mind. That Phantump you had given me when I first came here seems to really like my Ivysaur..." Tags: Kris Parker, , no problem @aeranautics! xD At least they know the other exists! Tags: @ninja, took $500 from your account, @aeranautics if you want to see. Pokemon Happiness: Baron - 0 (5/5) Starly Egg: 10/10 - Yay!Kristen grinned as Nitrine told him about Ginger. "Oh, that's wonderful! I'm sure Ginger will grow up to be a fantastic partner. Kurt's a dear friend, and I know how well he raises his Pokemon.
"Yes, go meet everyone," Kristen said with a laugh. "This is a pretty big island, but there's no reason as to why everyone should be strangers."
Nitrine didn't say too much else, especially after August and Harlequin entered. The Mismagius seemed to startle Nitrine a bit, which Kristen found understandable. The Ghost-type's abrupt appearance wasn't something that one would expect.
Nonetheless, the two male ranchers greeted each other cordially enough, even if Nitrine seemed to leave rather quickly. Kristen waved as Nitrine walked out of the office, calling, "Don't be a stranger!"
Kristen gave her head a soft shake when August, apparently also noticing Nitrine's hasty retreat, wondered aloud if it had been his doing that caused Nitrine to leave. August barely waited for a response, getting right down to business.
"Another acre for Crescent Grove." Kristen typed away at the computer, and the printer was soon spitting out another sheet of paper. "Sounds good to me, August. Glad the Phantump seems to be getting along well with your other Pokemon, haha--"
She was cut off as the Starly egg suddenly shook, the outer shell cracking as it began to shimmer. It took seconds for a young Starly to emerge and almost tumble off of the counter. Kristen caught the baby Pokemon, cuddling it to her chest as she soothed it.
Once it was settled, Kristen said, "Hey, Baron... Why not take this little guy out back, give him water and make him a nest?"
The Scrafty obliged, albeit a touch reluctantly. It took him a moment to figure out the best way to hold the bird Pokemon.
"Well, that was exciting," Kristen said to August before marking his new borders on the map she had printed. "Sorry about that. Here you are!"
