Description: August is a tall, lean young man, lanky with his limbs and not much muscle or fat evident on his body. His hair is a very light blond, almost graying prematurely, and is long enough to get messed up by the wind, the ends reaching just past his eyes. His eyes are a gray shade, matching the neutral hues that he tends to dress in as well. His clothes are more along the lines of styles that are easy to move in, but he can clean himself up nicely when he needs to.
Personality: This man is on the quiet side, keeping mum about himself and his past. He doesn't mind meeting others, although many people tend to find him to be aloof or disinterested in being social just because he prefers to listen rather than contribute to conversations. While August is fairly serious, he has a dry sense of humor.
He's the type of man that others can depend on as long as he gets something out of the deal. However, if he considers someone else a friend, he would be loyal and protective out of friendship.
August, with his past, does have a competitive streak and isn't the most graceful loser in contests, battles, what-have-you. His temper is generally invisible to all but those closest to him. When August's blood begins to boil, his facial features harden, his words are curter and harsher than normal, and he tends to get away from the world to calm down.
He's also rather risky. For all his quiet tendencies, he's not one to turn down a dare or get spooked easily. August actually seems to enjoy adrenaline rushes, which may be what he's addicted to rather than gambling as his parents claim.
History: August ended up on the gym challenger path accidentally.
He was born and raised in Diamond City, and hasn't ever had the opportunity nor the inkling to venture any further than the Ascua region. In fact, he never had a thought to venture further than his hometown, but sometimes life throws curveballs that you can't do anything about.
August grew up with his parents, with his father Warren working at the Game Corner and his mother June at the gym. August spent most of his time back and forth at his parents' respective places of employment, but the older he got, the more he enjoyed the atmosphere of the Game Corner.
It actually became a bit of a problem.
June noticed it first, having gotten worried about her son growing up in that sort of environment, even when Warren reassured her that he wouldn't let anything happen to August. A game here or there wouldn't harm him, after all. Eventually, though, even Warren noticed that he would have to almost drag his son home at the end of his shifts. Warren thought his son getting a job at the Game Corner would instill some responsibility into him, but August ended up spending his paychecks right back into the Game Corner.
When August ended up getting fired from his job at the Game Corner -- for playing a little too long, so much so that he ended up playing through his actual shift -- June insisted that August travel the region and get away from Diamond City for a while. Perhaps some traveling would curb August of his alarming gambler's addiction.
August himself never believed he had a gambling problem. Rather, he just liked to play games and take a risk here or there. He could stop anytime.
Really.
In fact, that's why, after his parents tossed him onto a boat to the itty-bitty Greenberry Town, August was planning on cooling his heels for a day or two before sneaking back to Diamond City. The money that his parents gave him to start him on his travels would be enough to get a room in a hotel for a couple of nights and he'd just continue to win at the Game Corner (when his father isn't working) often enough to keep himself afloat.
Then an old lady decided he was lost and needed to find the Greenberry Lab to get his starter Pokemon despite the fact that he was clearly pushing on the ends of puberty, and August figured he may as well just go along with it.
Besides, maybe battling would give him the same kind of rush as gambling.
Goals & Mod Permissions: August's current goal is to earn enough gym badges so his parents won't kick him back out of the house by the time he reaches Diamond City again. He may grow enough to want to reach the Pokemon League's Hall of Fame.
Mods have permission to use his Pokemon or anything of use from his history when modding August's threads.
Starting Position: Beginner.
Other: His preferred types are Ghost, Dark and Poison, and the nicknames he gives his Pokemon tend to go toward game terms, especially cards or gambling games.
My member name is NINJA.
