Avalyn definitely preferred flying to boats.

Boat rides weren't too bad, especially the ones that traveled much faster than leisurely yachts and cruise ships. If she was still able to feel the wind in her hair, Avalyn was generally good. Yet, she was a little too excited about her new venture to properly enjoy the boat ride to Ascua's Greenberry Town.

She was heading into a new adventure! She was going to join the researcher's facility!

She would, hopefully, figure out her life!

"Thank you!" Once the boat docked, Avalyn thanked the crew that she passed by as she skipped onto land. She took a moment to get her bearings before spying the Pokemon Lab at the other end of the small town and racing off to it.

She should probably text Bryar, too. Her brother was in this region somewhere.

Reaching the lab, Avalyn knocked on the main door, hoping that she was going to the right place to join their team.

It didn't take too long for the door to open, allowing it to reveal a middle-aged man looking only a little worse for wear. His lab coat was half undone, the shirt beneath it a little wrinkly, and it seemed he skipped a day of shaving.

Nevertheless, he smiled down at Avalyn and said, "Good morning. I'm John Cordue, the professor's first assistant. What can we do for you?"

"Good morning!" Avalyn greeted, heedless of the state of the man before her. She was a little too excited.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Cordue. I'm Avalyn Glasse," she said, introducing herself while simultaneously taking out a job offer letter from her pack. "I'm here to join the researcher facility! I'm hoping I'm at the right place and that maybe you can help me get started?"

Or maybe he could at least point her in the right direction.

"Ah, Miss Glasse!" The young woman's name was familiar to John, and he was pleased to see that she was right on time and eager to boot. "Come in, come in! I hope your travels were well?"

John led her through the main foyer of the lab, making some small talk, before saying to her, "Alright, so as part of our researching team, you'll most likely start by doing mainly chores around the lab itself, caring for Pokemon that are part of other trainers' teams, cleaning equipment, small errands, those kind of things. We'll give you all the tools you'll need to succeed. Ultimately, everyone in this lab is a team as we unravel mysterious surrounding Pokemon and the Ascua region itself."

He paused in his spiel before asking, "Do you happen to have any Pokemon with you now? Or shall we provide you with a starter Pokemon?"

Avalyn grinned and followed Mr. Cordue into the lab, taking in her surroundings. It smelled a little sterile, which was understandable, but there was also plenty of paper, workbooks, a few others bustling about as the hum of computers and machines quietly buzzed in the air.

She returned the small talk with the man leading the way, talking about how well her travels went, and listened as he detailed the, frankly, typical-sounding chores she would be starting with. When he asked about her personal Pokemon, Avalyn shook her head.

"I'm afraid I don't have any on me right now," she said. "I left my team with my parents or with Johto's Violet City Gym. A starter Pokemon would be wonderful, if you guys can swing it.

"Is there anything in particular that the Greenberry Lab is researching?" Avalyn asked. She knew many Pokemon professors had specializations, like how Professor Rowan specialized in Pokemon evolution. Avalyn herself wasn't too sure what she'd want to research, but she had a jumping-off point with her favorite typing being Flying Pokemon.

"No worries at all," John said when Avalyn revealed she didn't have any Pokemon on her right now. "Follow me and we'll get you situated with a Pokemon partner immediately. The sooner you meet, the sooner you bond, after all."

He detailed a few of the other supplies the lab would give her with a starter Pokemon -- a few basics, some medicines should she need them in the field -- as they went to a small room that held a handful of pokeballs. John consulted a list of the available starters at the moment and handed it to Avalyn.

"We have quite a few types available," he said. "I heard you prefer Flying-types, but of course, you can have your pick."

Avalyn laughed when John mentioned that he had heard that she liked Flying-types. She supposed her resume detailing her previous gym work would have been a big hint.

She consulted the list, finding a few Pokemon that she wouldn't have minded, but there was a clear winner. "The Wingull for me, please," she said. "Thank you!"

The professor's assistant wasn't surprised in the slightest when the young woman chose the Wingull as her starting partner.

"A solid choice!" John said. "I'll get your new Pokemon for you and the starting supplies. Tomorrow, you'll report to the research facilities for your first day as a research assistant.

"Unless you have any questions," he continued, "you'll be free for the rest of the day to explore Greenberry Town and get to know your new Pokemon partner."

Avalyn grinned as she took her new Wingull's pokeball, thanking the professor's assistant again when he also gave her some starting supplies. "I'll be here right on time early in the morning," she promised, eager to start this new part of her life.

Right now, though, she wanted to get to know her new Pokemon partner.
