After doing a little more training in Greenberry Woods, Sadie felt a little more confident as she continued the beginning of her journey. Route 2 was a short path to Falldale Town, where she would soon have her first gym battle for Ascua's Pokemon League. All she needed to do was keep walking forward.

Vaguely, she wondered what kind of Pokemon lived on the outskirts of Greenberry Woods. Sadie had a decent trio of Pokemon at the ready, but if another viable Pokemon presented itself, Sadie wouldn't pass up the opportunity to catch it.

There wasn't much to Route 2. The treeline from Greenberry Woods peppered out quickly, not leaving much room for wild Pokemon to hide except for some taller grass on either side of the path.

As such, the majority of the wild Pokemon didn't seem to mind -- or care -- that there was a human in their midst. They were probably a bit used to it. A Hoppip floated languidly with the wind on Sadie's left, not even really looking at her, while a pair of Cutiefly were flitting in and out amid some of the weeds and buds to her right.

A heavy snore from down the path revealed a snoozing Sentret that was only half-hidden in the tall grass. Perhaps it had gotten too tired from eating some berries -- there was still a whole Oran Berry to its side -- to properly hide itself before napping.

Sadie took her time going down Route 2, finding that quite a few Pokemon were doing the same. She recognized a couple, like the Hoppip and Sentret, but there were a couple of smaller ones that she wasn't quite sure about.

Her Pokedex revealed that the Pokemon were called Cutiefly -- "An opponent's aura can tell Cutiefly what that opponent's next move will be. Then Cutiefly can glide around the attack and strike back." -- and were both the Bug and Fairy typing. Sadie had raised Bug-types before, but not Fairy. Vaguely, she wondered if they would be worth having on her team.

Watching the pair, Sadie figured she could get a little more experience from them, at the very least. She tossed out both Rico and Nova, saying, "Use Tackle and Confusion on the Cutiefly."

It took Nova a moment to find their opponents and Rico was nearly distracted by the abandoned Oran Berry, but the two did attack as Sadie had commanded after she reiterated the moves a second time.

The two Cutiefly weren't quite sure what hit them at first. Both of Sadie's Pokemon's attacks hit true, taking off a chunk of HP from each of the wild Pokemon.

The Cutiefly, once they recovered from the assault, both turned to retaliate in kind. The first Cutiefly cast a Fairy Wind to hit both of Sadie's Pokemon while the second Cutiefly flew above the Fairy Wind to spread a Stun Spore on Rico.

The two Cutiefly knew enough to have some sort of strategy, at the very least.

Nova listened well, switching between Confusion and Pound when Sadie commanded. Rico did well, too, still being able to do some moves despite one of the Cutiefly using Stun Spore on him. The four Pokemon traded blows, with both Cutiefly using Absorb at some point to try to get some hit points back.

When Rico's paralysis got the better of him, Sadie commanded Nova to switch opponents and take down the second Cutiefly. The Meditite did so, her Pound attack taking care of the wild Pokemon after Rico's stronger Tackle attacks had done most of the damage. The first Cutiefly seemed a bit confused as to why Nova didn't attack it and Sadie chose to throw a Pokeball at it instead of continuing the battle.

The first Cutiefly was indeed confused about its partner fainting, so much so that it didn't even notice the Pokeball being thrown its way. Sadie's aim was true and, after two shakes, the Pokeball stilled to signal that the Cutiefly was captured.

Another Pokemon caught.

"Great job, guys," Sadie said to Rico and Nova while picking up the Cutiefly's pokeball. She was probably going to put the Cutiefly in the PC with her Skwovet, let it hang out with the professor and her assistants in Greenberry Town, rather than keep it on her team for now. Perhaps down the line she would need a Fairy-type Pokemon but, for now, Sadie was content with her team as is.

Sadie returned her two Pokemon, spotting Falldale Town on the horizon and looking forward to visiting the Pokemon Center and the first gym of the region.
