Sadie had enough of boats for a lifetime. They had been fine and dandy, obviously necessary when she had been traveling through Alola, but the days-long trip from Mossdeep, Hoenn to Blue River Valley, Ascua to the connecting boat ride to Greenberry Town was more than enough to make Sadie want to swear off sailing.

But, she was here. She was finally in tiny-ass Greenberry Town to start a new leg of her journey to become a great Pokemon trainer.

Sadie took a few moments to be sure her legs wouldn't buckle beneath her -- they were still feeling similar to jelly from being on boats for so long -- before walking off the dock and down the path of the town. It was quaint, reminding her of Littleroot Town from when she first met Professor Birch, with a little market stand for fresh produce and people who all seemed to know each other by name. She didn't seem to be the only stranger to the town, though, if seeing a few others heading towards the largest building by the coast was any indication.

Sadie took a deep breath and resisted rolling her eyes at seeing the few other new trainers, many of them younger than her. It wasn't a surprise, to be honest, and she resigned herself to be patient for those others to get their starting Pokemon and supplies first. She had done all that before and could wait a few more minutes to do it again.

Then she'd crush the newbie trainers as they all competed against each other during the gym challenge.

When the last of the few other trainers had gotten what they needed, Sadie took her turn to go into the lab and clear her throat. "Hello? If I'm able to, I would also like a starter Pokemon. Please."

Ah, there was another one.

John grinned at the steady stream of new trainers asking for starter Pokemon and supplies. He always loved it when there was a gaggle of new kids stepping off the boats to Greenberry Town, each of them excited and coming in to get their partners before dashing off again.

Well. Most of them seemed excited.

John's grin didn't falter, even when the last of the new arrivals made her entrance at the lab. She was probably the oldest of the lot, already seems like she knew what she was doing, but nonetheless was asking for a starter Pokemon as well. The Greenberry Labs was nothing but accommodating.

"Absolutely," John said. "I'm John Cordue, Professor Cypress's assistant. I'd be delighted to help you get started. Follow me."

He led the young woman to the PC room and asked, "Are you connected to the storage system for Ascua? Shall I help set you up?"

Despite having already faced a few other starting trainers, the named John Cordue still seemed raring to go. Sadie nodded a greeting to him and introduced herself as, "Sadie Fox. Pleasure," when he gave his name.

She said nothing else as so followed the man as instructed, only responding when asked a question. "I have not yet been set up with Ascua's storage system, no. I do have a storage system with Professor Birch of Hoenn. I don't imagine they're connected at all?" If they were somehow connected, then perhaps it'd be easier for Sadie to be set up in Ascua. The Greenberry Labs could just grab all of her information from Birch if that was the case.

She wondered what sort of starter Pokemon the Greenberry Labs had available. As opposed to the usual starting types of Water, Grass, and Fire from the other regions she's been to, Greenberry Labs boasted of Pokemon that were bred from Gaia Island. Sadie made a mental note to go and visit the island at some point, perhaps even buy an egg or two for a nice, strong ally down the line.

"I'm afraid we're not connected that way, no," John said apologetically when the now-named Sadie mentioned her storage system with Professor Birch. "Birch is a good man. By the sounds of it, this isn't your first adventure with Pokemon, huh? Any special reason why you're coming to Ascua, especially for a starter if you already have a storage system elsewhere?"

Nevertheless, John helped set Sadie up with Ascua's storage system -- the process being simple and similar enough, John imagined, to when Sadie was set up with Hoenn's storage system -- and retrieved one of the packages with starting supplies for Sadie.

"Of course, we have plenty of starters for folks who would like one," John said, musing about how recently both he and Professor Cypress went on a bit of a shopping spree, if you will, on Gaia Island. John found the list of available starters at the moment, being sure to cross out the few that were just recently taken by the gaggle of starting trainers that had been in the lab right before Sadie.

"Here are the available ones," John said. "Hopefully one will tickle your fancy."

"No, not my first adventure at all," Sadie said, with a soft shake of her head. She didn't elaborate further, not wishing to go over how she had failed to join the Hall of Fame in no less than three other regions' Pokemon Leagues. Instead, Sadie was content to just allow the professor's assistant to help her get set up with Ascua's storage system.

Sadie was eager to receive her starting supplies and new Pokemon partner, and be on her way.

She quietly thanked John when he gave her the list of available starter Pokemon, finding a few that she wouldn't mind by her side at the start of a new journey. A Totodile, Shinx, even the Meditite may grow to be formidable... After a moment, though, Sadie made her decision.

"I'd like the Phanpy. Please," she said.

The young woman gave her head a soft shake and a simple answer in response to his question. No details, no elaboration, and John didn't pry. Perhaps Ms. Fox was looking for a fresh start and wanted to forget about whatever happened in her past. Perhaps she was just ultra-focused on starting her journey in Ascua. No matter the reason, it wasn't any of John's business.

It was easy to set her up with the storage system, her knowledge of Hoenn's system easing the process a bit. After a few moments of deliberation, Sadie picked the Ground-type Phanpy as her starter.

"Wonderful!" John said. "I'll be right back with your Pokemon and starting supplies."

He wasn't gone long and returned to hand Sadie a Pokeball and a small package. "Alrightie, you got a handful of pokeballs and a couple of antidotes and potions to get you started. Take care, and best of luck to both you and your new Phanpy!"

Sadie was thankful that John was enthusiastic rather than nosy. With all the starting trainers he probably saw, Sadie vaguely wondered what kinds of stories he gathered from them, even if the majority were fresh-faced trainers taking on the world for the first time.

Wait, that probably meant Sadie would be facing off against younger teens throughout her journey. Ugh. Youths.

Sadie got rid of those thoughts and smiled when John returned with her starting supplies and new Phanpy partner. Hopefully she and the Phanpy would get along just fine...

"Thank you," Sadie said sincerely, "for all your help. I'll keep in touch."
